Financial Carnival for Young Adults ' 24th Edition

Welcome to the twenty-fourth edition of the Financial Carnival for Young Adults. My purpose with this carnival is to create an easy-to-find place for information about finances for young adults. The carnival is hosted here at 20's Finances almost week and features the most recent articles from around the web. While last week we talked about Real Estate, Frugality, and Self-Employment, this week's topics include side-jobs and credit.

Side-Jobs ' Making a Little Extra

My wife and I have done a lot better for ourselves financially once I picked up a side-job. I know I didn't want to go to work for another company, getting paid for my hours away from home so I started my own side business. It's slowly growing and I have a lot of hope for it's potential going forward.

Jon the Saver from Free Money Wisdom gives a great list of 13 Part-time Jobs With Benefits - Do you want some good news on the employment front? Here it is: you can get employee benefits on many part-time jobs.

Daisy @ Add Vodka writes Why Babysitting is an Awesome Side Hustle - I babysit as a side hustle. I watch two kids that live fairly close to where I work. It works out perfectly, because I get off at 4:00 and I start babysitting at 4:30 a couple of days a week.

Eddie at Finance Fox also thinks it's important for people to have a list of great part-time jobs, so he writes Seven High Paying Part-Time Jobs - A part-time job can also be used to increase retirement savings, supplement business income, and an effective way of dealing with stagnant salaries.

Not everything can be perfect though. Sometimes people look for a part-time job so that they can slowly transition out of their current job. A great reason to do this is if there is Workplace Stress. This is a great article by John from Married with Debt saying, 'The verdict is in ' your job is killing you. More specifically, workplace stress is killing you. This means we've come full circle from our days as cavemen, when our biggest source of stress was finding food.'

Last but not least, sometimes things don't go your way and you face unemployment. Squeezer @ Personal Finance Success writes How to stretch your dollars when you are unemployed to help with this predicament. With the Bureau of Labor Statistics pinning unemployment at 8.2%, many individuals are out of work and looking for a new job. To combat this, one should trim his or her budget to extend any savings as long as possible.

All Things Credit

For those who follow my blog regularly, you know that I recently learned the importance of credit history and your credit score.

Ted Jenkin @ Your Smart Money Moves writes Three Ways Credit Card Companies Can Trick You. You need to pay attention to your contracts and statements. You never know the implications of one mistake can have on your finances for years to come.

Glen Craig from Free From Broke writes Bad Credit? Rebuild it With These Secured Credit Card Offers - Using one of the best secured credit card offers can help you build, or re-build, and improve your credit an get you on your way to getting an unsecured card.

While you may not think about loans affecting your credit score, they do. It go either way, depending on how you manage your payment plans. That's why Crystal's article, at Budgeting in the Fun Stuff, Student Loan Advice is so relevant. She tells you to check out my student loan advice, and see if I can help you.
